This topic deserves no explanation, but it may merit some discussion. The trailer for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is a mock advertisement for the Lacuna Corporation, optimistically promotes the benefits of memory loss. In all actuality, the tone of the trailer and film makes the Lacuna Corporation out to be a company tampering with a subject they don't yet clearly understand. Both Joel, who decides while undergoing the procedure that there are some memories of Clementine that he would like to keep, and Mary, who underwent the process and still ended up pining for the married man with whom she had an affair, reveal the oversights of Lacuna Corp. (not to mention the stoned, pantless employees who (rouitinely?) get drunk off of their patients' booze while performing the procedure). Nevertheless it is a unique if not clever idea. What do you think? Does the Lacuna Corporation break any ethical boundaries?
